Jefferson county Rural Fire Protection District No. 1 encompasses a 200 square-mile area in the central portion of Jefferson County. The district includes the cities of Madras and Metolius.

The fire station is located at 765 S. Adams Drive, Madras. The office number is (541) 475-7274. The regular working hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a break for lunch from 12 to 1 p.m.

The station is on call 24 hours a day. In case of a fire emergency, call 911.

Jefferson County EMS

The Jefferson County Emergency Medical Service (EMS) serves a 1,200 square-mile area, including much of Jefferson County. The principal responsibility of the service is to treat any medical emergency that happens in the ambulance district. EMS provides advanced life support 24 hours-a-day, 365 day-a-year.

To the south, the EMS district extends to Park Lane, near the border with Deschutes County. South of Park Lane is within the Redmond ambulance service. To the north, the EMS district extends beyond the Jefferson County border into Wasco County.

When air transport is necessary, Air Life, based in Bend, is the primary provider, although Life Flight of Portland is called on occasion. EMS also transfers patients on a regular basis between Mountain View Hospital and St. Charles Hospital.
