Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) - Palmain Internet Service Back

Listed below are questions frequently asked of our staff and responses to them.
  • I can't receive my email. It starts to download and then freezes up.
  • Response: This generally occurs when the mailbox is full. Either with too many messages or one or more large ones.

Try to download one email at a time. To do so note which message the download locks up on. Then the next time you try to download hit stop just before you get to that number i.e. if you locked up on message 20 then hit stop on message 18. It will download through 19. Hit send & receive again and hit stop for each message. In this way you should be able to complete your downloading.
If this doesn't work we may be able to do it for you.
The last alternative is for us to to clear the box, you will lose all messages in the box.
Preventive measures: Check your email on a regular basis. Unsubscribe to unused or underused mail lists. Don't request that files greater then one megabyte sent to you by email. Use ftp for large files or documents.

  • I get a message to check my password.
  • Response: When you get this message you either have the wrong user name or password typed in.

First make sure your Caps lock key is not on (Both user name & passwords are case    sensitive), then highlight each in turn and retype them in.   Note that your user name is not "username"@palmain.com, it is "username" only. Then retry.
If you still are having problems, contact us.

  • I get on the net (I am on the home page) but can't go anywhere.
  • Response: You probably are not logged in. Check to see that the computer lights are on in the small computers in the lower right taskbar. If not go to the My Computer icon on the desktop and open it by double clicking on it with the left mouse button. Then open the Dial up Networking icon. Next double click on the Palmain icon and after checking to see that your name and password are correct, click on connect. You should now see the computers at the right bottom of the taskbar. Now click on your browser i.e. Internet Explorer or Netscape. You should now be able to navigate the web.
  • I keep getting the message that it can't find palmain.com.
  • Response: You probably are not logged in. See above.
  • I get logged on (the computers are lit in the lower right hand corner but I get the response that it can't find the domain name.
  • Response: You may not have the domain numbers installed. You can check this out by going to My Computer, then right click on dialup networking, select properties, server types (top of window) then select TCP/IP settings. See that the Server assigned IP Address is checked as well as Specify Name Server Address. If no numbers are present add for the Primary DNS 198.36.171.1 and for the Secondary DNS 208.242.132.5. If the numbers are present contact us.
  • It takes a long time or won't go to a specific web address.
  • Response: The Server hosting that address is busy or down. Keep trying or try later
  • I keep getting bumped off the internet.
  • Response: The lines between your modem and the server are experiencing excessive noise, use or may be affected by weather conditions. If the problem persists have the phone company check it out. Another possibility is if you have call waiting. A caller can disrupt the connection. This can be deactivated by using *70 before dialing the internet number.
